There are many ways we influence evolution in contemporary time, or in our lifetime. While I have been focused on how we influence the process by way of the chemicals we use, life evolves in response to fishing, hunting, driving, and now there is evidence that life is evolving in response to climate change. No big surprise. And, as the article suggests, adaptation doesn’t necessarily mean all is good for survival; nor is it all good for us. As life responds to changing climate we can also probably expect changes in disease and disease vector patterns. As if the physical effects of a changing climate won’t be enough for us to deal with. Though I expect this won’t happen in places like Florida and North Carolina, where climate change (and maybe even evolution!) apparently isn’t happening. Bully for them!
Evolution is just warming up
